Our Label of the Month: URU Design / SOLOSOCKS

If there is something we miss the most it is that one single sock that has gone missing after washing. A pair now being incomplete the remaining sock sooner or later is most probably going to be trashed, too. The Danish sock-saving label URU Design produces relief. 

Their brand SOLOSOCKS stems the waste of socks by designing individual socks that still match – and there is no doubt about it whatsoever. We love that principle and haven chosen the Copenhagen-based company to be our Label of the Month.

Please tell us something about your brand and the ideas behind it?

With SOLOCKS® you avoid waste of socks. And you do not need to pair socks any more. When one of our socks gets damaged, we discard the pair. Imagine how many socks are wasted in the world. Now you can avoid it. SOLOSOCK® is pack of 5 or 7 single socks that are different but designed to mix and match. Because of this you do not need to pair socks any more and will avoid discarding pairs when one is damaged.

The special designed packaging can be expanded and reused as a storage box in you’re drawer. Just pick and use them. And after a wash just put them back in the storage box – no need to pair them.

U R U Design is the Danish company behind SOLOSOCKS®. The mission of the company is to deliver products combining Danish design with innovation and sustainability. Today, not many brands deliver all three elements in one product. Our ambition is to create high-end Danish design products based on innovative new ideas using the best quality of organic materials. Not an easy job. But that’s the promise.

SOLOSOCKS is U R U Design’s first creation delivering the promise. The socks are designed by talented designers and made of the worlds’ best organic combed cotton. And the packaging is made of recyclable material.

What’s special about your brand? What do you want to achieve in the future?

Our brand essence: Danish design, practical innovation and organic quality in one product. Our first concept SOLOSOCKS® has been received extremely positively by design and quality lovers. It indicates that people endorse our ideas and values. We have some more interesting similar innovative ideas under development.

Our dream is to expand the U R U brand globally and become a trusted trademark for those who expect great design, organic quality and innovation. We admire diversity and appreciate individuality. Therefore our company is called You Are You and our creative designer strives to feature diversity and allow expression of individuality.

What’s your design process like?

Our design process is based on teamwork of experts. Usually a designer, who involves and collaborates with various material and production specialists, leads a project. Danish design is about creating aesthetic products based on values such as functionality, simplicity and minimalism. To that, we add features that make life easier and more enjoyable; such as more comfort, better functionality and daily ease of use or a combination.

Quality is a matter of using the best possible environmentally friendly and sustainable material with social responsibility. It is not only a question of which material, but also where, how and by who it is made.

What was the most exciting experience having your own brand / company?

That the brand has been selling itself. Right from the beginning, without any special sales or promotion activities, SOLOSOCKS was ordered by some of the most exclusive design stores in Denmark. And now we are also receiving orders from famous design stores in other European countries.

Magazines and bloggers contact us and are interested to know more about the brand. Recently our socks were featured in in Süddueutsche Zeitung, which has accelerated SOLOSOCKS popularity in Germany.

What are some of your favorite stores?

Louisiana, Trapholt and AROS in Denmark; Atelier Akeef in Berlin; Homagestore Berlin; Form Design Malmö; Edwin Pelsner Amsterdam, etc.

In the end, please tell us something about the location your company is based? Which places (restaurants, shops, bars, …) near by would you also recommend?

Copenhagen is not the biggest city in the world but it has so much to offer. The little MermaidNoma (worlds best restaurant with 3 Michelin stars), Tivoli garden are all only 20 minutes away from our locations.
