We are delighted to introduce yet another notable Label of the Month to you.

This time, Parka London was selected to be presented to you because if you have not heard of Parka London yet, you’re missing out on something. The hip London-based brand zooms in on a garment that clearly is one of everybody’s all-time favourites. Ocularly, it’s the parka.

The unique pieces of each collection are far from boring between-season jackets: Parka London coats are classy, timeless, fashionable, and incredibly cool.

Their latest, current collection (SS15) unites chic Parisian elegance with the urban London vibe. The results are pieces in modern shapes in natural and earthy colours.

In our interview, Olivia from Parka London enlightens us about the brand’s precept and culinary advantages of a Camden-based office.

Please tell us something about your brand and the ideas behind it.

Parka London is a design collective that puts the parka on a pedestal. Classic garments and silhouettes with a modern twist form the core of the collections.

What’s special about your brand? What do you want to achieve in the future?

We are an outerwear brand, jackets and coats are the focus and as a consequence our speciality. We are all about classic design with a modern twist so we put all our energy into creating just this in our collections – we aim to be the best in this field and offer our customers the most in quality and design while maintaining our unique Parka London signature.

What’s your design process like?

The design process generally begins a year before the collection is launched online. We look to current trends and styles that are prominent and put our Parka London twist on things. Obviously parkas feature heavily in our collections so we look to inspiration to update the classic parka each season in a new and modern way. We source new fabrics and faux fur trims to keep the range looking new, refreshed and luxurious.

What was the most exciting experience having your own brand / company ?

The most exciting and rewarding experience has been the reaction to the brand from the public. Seeing individuals and retailers buying into the Parka London ethos and watching the demand for the product increase rapidly has been beyond what we ever imagined.

Which three pieces are your favourites out of your current collection?

From the women’s collection, we love Meredith – a feminine swing shape and featuring an oversized structured hood, this style nods to the classic parka. We also love Davis, a carbon coated water resistant parka, with playful chambray and stripe lining. From the men’s collection Brooker is our classic spring parka. In a cotton, nylon fabric with a dry wax finish, this style is unlined for a lightweight easy and functional piece.

What are some of your favourite stores?

Top favourites and inspirational stores in London – The Goodhood Store off Hoxton Square for design brilliance, Smug in Camden Passage, SCP off Old Street and Present for unique menswear on Shoreditch High Street.

In the end, please tell us something about the location your company is based? Which places (restaurants, shops, bars, …) nearby would you also recommend?

We are based in Kentish Town just down from Camden so we spend a lot of time in the Turkish area on the high street, the best chicken wraps London has to offer. We often frequent the local charity shops which litter the high street in search of a bargain of some kind. For food and some of the best cocktails we are dangerously close to some of the best venues in North London, Pizza East, the Chicken Shop and Dirty Burger are just around the corner so we never go hungry!
