Label of the month: LIKETHIS from Amsterdam

Label of the month: LIKETHIS from Amsterdam

As we are expanding TheLabelFinder‘s reach within Europe, we started concentrating on the Dutch fashion scene: Apart from a surprisingly high number of interesting and inspiring stores, the Netherlands also has a vast pool of fashion talents.

During our research we discovered Amsterdam-based brand LikeThis and instantly fell in love with their whimsical pieces, featuring charming details, exciting colour combinations and materials. We spoke to Urs Hasham, co-creator and founder of LikeThis, about the brand and why Amsterdam is such a cool place to work and live – and visit!

-Please tell us something about your brand and the ideas behind it?

What’s not to like? (This is the slogan of our concept “LIKE”..)

The women’s label LikeThis was founded in Amsterdam in 2011 by two kindred souls who both drew their inspiration from the lighthearted side of life – Fleur & Urs.
The true attention to detail inherent in the nature of the brand gives each and every LikeThis item an elegant yet edgy look, whilst hiding clever design twists for your everyday smile.
While each individual item from the collection does it’s part, the mix of quality materials, unique patterns, contrasting colours and fit does the rest to ensure that the LikeThis collections will always stand out as the cherry on the pie of every shop, wardrobe or social event.

-What’s special about your brand?

The LikeThis name comes from a positive point of view – it is nice to like things and reflects the philosophy of the people behind the brand who “LikeThis”. The brand draws it’s brand influences from the urban melting pot of Amsterdam and fuses these with the light side of life – a feel good-factor of clever humor with inspiration coming from the world around us and fusing these with seasonal trends.

For example, all our clothes’ pockets are always in the shape of ovengloves: We just love food and cooking…..and that’s also the reason why all our items have names that have something to do with food, and that’s why we are doing a collaboration with a chef cook for the coming next seasons!

Our sizing goes from ‘I am XS’ to ‘I am XM’ – Yes, Extra Medium because we think Extra Medium sounds much nicer than Large.
Besides that there are always little surprises to find in each item. So basically everything we do is about ‘feeling good’…

-What do you want to achieve in the future with LikeThis?

We would like to expand to outside of Europe….to make more people smile.

– What’s your design process like?

We are very aware of what’s going on in the world of fashion, but although it’s easier to follow those trends, we stick to our own principles and make sure we have a lot of fun creating clothes for our friends and ourselves. That’s why every season starts with designing what we miss in our own wardrobes. After that we look at what’s going on in the world of fashion. We do what we like best… and if that’s clashing with what the rest does but we truly believe in it, we’ll still go for it!

We think our collection expresses how we look at the world.
We believe that whatever you wear always gives a message with the way you dress, even if you don’t have any interest in clothing.

-In the end, please tell us something about the location your company is based and your favorite places!

Our Studio is in the centre of Amsterdam, in the heart of the Jordaan area, Westerstraat 70.
It’s very cosy…I think it’s the smallest studio like ever! It’s right behind our shop, so we always get to hear the customers’ reaction. That’s so cool!

The Jordaan is also the best area of Amsterdam! There are a lot of bars and restaurants in the neighbourhood.

Our favourite wine bar is just around the corner, Di Vino, they serve also amazing food. The staff is mega friendly and the wine is gorgeous!

Across the street you find Moooi by Marcel Wanders, which is really nice to visit. They sell the most wanted collection for your home.

Every Monday there’s a very good market with second hand stuff, and on Saturdays there is a ‘farmers market’ on the noordermarket. Super nice! This farmer’s market is the most trendy of the Amsterdam markets. This began in 1987 when Adri Vallentin, then owner of the popular café called Winkel on the Noordermarkt, set up nine organicfood stalls, hoping to draw more clients on Saturday mornings to his café. And nowadays Winkel is famous for their apple pie. If you didn’t get a piece of that you haven’t really been in Amsterdam.

For nice lunches you should go to Bocca’s, which is just a few doors away from us. In the Tweede tuindwarsstraat you’ll find Café de Tuin. Nice place to go for drinks. And the best pizza of Amsterdam you’ll find at La perla.
