LABEL OF THE MONTH: RAINS
Better late than never: Today I want to introduce you to our Label of the month for November, Danish label RAINS, that focuses on water-proofed jackets, bags and accessories. Exactly the kind of clothing we are looking for during rainy November. We talked to the men behind RAINS – Daniel Brix and Philip Lotko – to give you a brief insight of their work and designs.
– Please tell us something about your brand and the ideas behind it?

Our passion for keeping things simple but still innovating has always been a key element for the partnership, which is driving the RAINS organization. 
Two of the people behind RAINS, Daniel Brix and Philip Lotko, have been doing different kinds of business, both together and separately, before their roads once more crossed with RAINS. 
Their partnership started with a project called Lotko & Brix, a brand that produced hoodies for girls. After that they turned to the children’s market, but then the financial crises struck which resulted in a setback for Daniel and Philip and the two young men decided to go separate ways.
Since then Daniel has been establishing a distribution company of floor promotional media at a company called ID mats, and Philip has been working with PR, events, nightclubs and bars in the heart of Copenhagen. 
Then, about a year ago, the two men decided to work together once more and established RAINS, this time with two new team players;
Kenneth Davids, whom has a “past” in working with logistics and economics, and Christian Back, whom has a background in sales and is the founder of Nag.

 

– What’s special about your brand? What do you want to achieve in the future?

“The constellation of the four of us being so different gives the whole organization a really dynamic form and makes us able to move really fast from idea to product.”
Some of the key words and thoughts are the “transparency” and the “simplicity”. 
“Our main goal is to keep it simple, in everything from the visual identity and the name to the way the products are presented.
That also applies to the way we work when we design; we look for clear lines and razor sharp cuts. 
We want to establish our selves in the European market but we will also strive to take a move on “alternate” rain ground; markets in the likes of Indonesia, South Africa and South America is interesting for us to look at. One of the most exciting things for us about RAINS is the future.  

– Which three pieces are your favorites out of your current collection?

 I really can’t point out which of the products that I like more than any other. I like the diversity in the designs; you can look all tight and business, you can look simple and “fashion” and you can look street and sporty. It’s all just a question of how you style it. 

– What are some of of your favorite stores?

It’s actually the same when you are looking at the stores that represent us. I love the fact that the diversity of our products makes it possible for us to be “sold” in high fashion shops as well as sports shops and other lifestyle retailers. 
In RAINS regimen we have two different departments, one in Egå and one in Copenhagen.
In Egå, just outside Aarhus, we have the administration and the buying/design department, where we pack and stack all the orders and service all our agents, distributors and retailers. This department is really effective; we are working with the N.O.S (Never Out Of Stock) system, which makes our supply-chain impeccable.
 In the heart of Copenhagen we have PR/Marketing and sales. Our showroom is currently located in the center of the city; we are here combining Sales and PR/Marketing strategies. We love the energy of being in the eye of the storm; it’s important for us to be visible on the streets. Meeting up with stylist or journalists for a quick chat, just to let people know what’s going on in the rainwear business.

– In the end, please tell us something about the location your company is based? Which places (restaurants, shops, bars, …) near by would you also recommend?

When I decide to go out to meet people or just to hang out with friends I often go to a little bar called “Floss”, which is a true pearl. You meet all kinds of people; old rock stars, old politicians, everybody with their own special personality, real characters. Close to the bar you’ll find “Wardrobe 19” which is one of Copenhagen’s most original and complete concept shops. It’s kind of a “greatest hits”-shop, and is definitely worth a visit.

When going out for dinner and drinks I often pay “Fiskebaren” a visit, where the food is delicious and the wine is good. It’s a nice place to start an evening at. When travelling out into the night I often end up in the dark frames of the nightclub “Simons”. What happens there, stays there…
